Queensland 2010
Doomben, Eagle Farm, Gold Coast & Ipswich - May & June 2010:
Over the months of May and June, the Brisbane Racing Club holds its annual Winter Carnival. The Group 1 races that take place over the two month long carnival include the BTC Cup, Doomben Cup, Doomben 10,000, QLD Oaks, Stradbroke Hcp, The TJ Smith, QLD Derby and the Winter Stakes. The majority of the races over the carnival are held at the Doomben and Eagle Farm tracks, with very good support meetings held at Gold Coast and Ipswich. Let us take a look back over the carnival, highlighting the feature race winners and the Oze Racing Review results.
The carnival kicked off on the 1st of May at Eagle Farm, with the Group 2 Victory Stakes being the feature race of the day. Oze Racing Review members got off to a real flyer, with our top Selection Ghetto Blaster getting the chocolates in the feature event at odds of $4.4 on the NSW tote. The Listed Hogs Breath Tails Stakes was also run on the first day and once again our top pick Tabulate saluted at odds of $2.4. Overall the first day of the carnival was a success with members finding 5 winners from the 6 rated races.
The second week of the carnival was held at the Gold Coast with the feature race being the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes. It was another good result for members with our 4th pick Metal Bender scoring impressively at odds of $5.9. We also managed the quinella $5.1 and trifecta $46 in our top 4 selections. Other winners for the day included our top pick Lifebuoy $4.3 in race 2 and 2nd pick Graceful Anna who took out the Listed Silk Stocking for fillies and mares.
The third week of the carnival was held ay Doomben with the feature race being the Group 1 BTC Cup worth $400k. Oze Racing Review members found 4 of the 7 winners including Crossthestart that took out the Group 3 Chairman’s Hcp at around $11. Albert The Fat was the surprise winner of the Group 1 BTC Cup at odds of $27 on a day when not one favourite saluted.
Racing continued at Doomben on the 22nd of May with the running of the Group 1 Doomben Cup. It was a massive card of racing with seven Group races taking place. It was another very good day for members who found 6 winners from the 7 rated races including 2 top pick winners. Our third pick Stryker took out the Group 3 Fred Best Classic at odds of $7.2 whilst our top pick Rothesay took out the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup. Our 2nd pick Metal Bender saluted in a close finish in the Group 1 Doomben Cup. We managed to finish the day on a high with our best bet Beaded scoring at odds of $2.8.
The last of the 3 days at Doomben was on the 29th of May where we had the running of the Group 1 Doomben 10,000. It was a massive day for members where we found 5 winners from the 7 rated races including 2 top pick winners. Top pick Prince Braeman won the Listed Chief De Beers Hcp at odds of $3.9 and it was only a sign of good things to come. Second pick Kutchinsky won the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes at the juicy odds of $6.3 in what a very impressive display. The Group 3 Premiers Cup was taken out by our 3rd pick Tabulate at the huge odds of $10.6 with the running double for those who found it, paying $87. The day continued to get better for members when our top selection Hot Danish won the feature Group 1 Doomben 10,000 at odds of $5.4. We also managed the quinella $22 and trifecta $256 in our top 4 selections. We finished the day on a high with our 4th pick Blazing Hearts scoring well at the massive odds of $14.7. The daily double of Tabulate into Blazing Hearts paid a whopping $160 and the quaddie paid an unbelievable $10,375 on the Vic tote. A huge day for all members!!
On the 5th of June racing was moved to Eagle Farm for the running of the Group 1 Queensland Oaks. It was another big days racing, with four Group 2 races also taking place on the eight race card. The Group 1 Queensland Oaks was a blow-out for punters with the winner Miss Keepsake scoring at odds of $27 plus. Members had a better result in the Listed Daybreak Lover Plate when our 3rd pick Girl Hussler scored a strong win at odds of $17. We also managed the quinella $41 and trifecta $264 in our top 3 selections. The Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup was taken out by our top pick Triple Honour who paid nicely at odds of $4.3.
On the 12th of June we continued racing at Eagle Farm with three feature Group 1 events taking place in the Stradbroke Hcp, TJ Smith and Queensland Derby. It was another successful days racing where members found 4 winners from 6 rated races, including 3 winners on top and another at huge odds. We kicked things off in race 4 the Listed Strawberry Road Hcp where our top pick Our Lukas scored very well at odds of $6. We continued our good results with our top pick Dariana scoring a comfortable victory at odds of $5.4 in the Group 1 Queensland Derby. We also managed to score the trifecta straight which paid very well at odds of $171. Race 7 was the running of the Group 1 Stradbroke Hcp and members where cheering when our 3rd selection Black Piranha flew in late to score on the line at odds of $23+. It was a massive result and we also managed the quinella $86.5 in our top 3 selections. We ended the day on a high with our best bet Rothesay scoring in the Group 2 3yo Queensland Guineas at odds of $2.1.
Racing was at Ipswich on the 19th of June where we saw the running of the Listed Eyeliner Stakes and the Listed Ipswich Cup. Members couldn’t have been happier as we found 5 winners from the 7 rated races including a massive 4 selections on top. We got the ball rolling in race 1 with our top selection Rainbow Styling scoring at odds of $3.7. The run continued in our next rated race with top pick Fab Fevola scoring comfortably at odds of $1.7. Our 2nd pick Rokatoko scored in race 4 at odds of $2.8 with our top pick Lochiel very unlucky back in 3rd. Race 5 was the Provincial Cup and our top pick Yield Curve got the job done at odds of $6.3. In the feature race of the day the Listed Ipswich Cup our top selection and bet of the day Our Lukas got the job done at odds of $3.4. It was another massive day for members who have enjoyed a successful Brisbane Winter Carnival.
The final day of the carnival will take place at Eagle Farm on the 26th of June. We will see the running of the Group 1 Winter Stakes, Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup and the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes. Let’s hope our successful run can continue. I hope you’re a member!!
