Summer Racing Carnivals - Perth, Sydney and Brisbane:
I'm making a New Years resolution to back more winners this year and there is no
shortage of quality races in January to kick-start the New Year!
The 1st of January is a very popular day for race goers and punters alike and there are some great races to have a crack at.
The best of these without a doubt, is the Group 2 Perth Cup run at the picturesque Ascot course over the 2400m. This meeting
is ably supported with the likes of the time honoured Standish and Bagot Hcps at Flemington.
Sydney sees a meeting steeped in tradition with the Tattersall's Club holding their New Year’s Day meeting with the Carrington
Stakes and Tatts Club Cup. At the same time, we herald the start of the Magic Millions carnival on the Gold Coast with the
running of the Bat Out Of Hell.
The remainder of January features some fine racing that will be highlighted by the Magic Millions race day on the 15th.
This has become an institution on the Australian Racing Calendar and is a day not to be missed. Let’s hope the continuing
wet weather doesn't hamper the programming any more than it has in sunny Queensland!
The month concludes with the racing just getting better and better. The Group 2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday
Night 28th of January will see many of the autumn big guns resuming. Of course, the end of January also signals the start
of the increasingly popular Tasmanian summer carnival, which we will be having a look at again this year.
That will take us into February, where many of the heavy hitters will be out to stake their claim for the autumn riches.
So, lets hope the rain has eased up a bit by then and we can look forward to more exciting racing.
