Summer Racing At It's Best! ...
December 2010

Perth, Brisbane, Sydney & Hong Kong - December 2010:

Summer is well and truly upon us now, although you wouldn't know it by the amount of rain we are having. Despite the wet weather, we are in for some sensational summer racing.

The Perth carnival is in full swing, with the two big group 1's run and won, but there is plenty of stakes races left in that carnival. The focus switches to the stayers now, with the Perth Cup being run on New Years Day. There are a couple of nice stakes race for the fillies and mares, which is all improtant for the breeders.

The summer sprint series was to get under way in Brisbane this weekend, but the George Moore Stakes meeting was washed out after only two races. That event has been transferred and hopefully now, we can get a clear run. There is good money for these stakes races, which are run run between 1200m and 1600m. And you will find plenty of southern states raiders up there, to plunder the riches.

December racing in Sydney always gets my blood pumping, with the time honoured Villiers to be run at Randwick the weekend before Xmas. This is a fantastic group 2 event over the famous Royal Randwick mile and usually throws up a pretty good horse or two. There are also two very good staying events over the xmas period with the Summer and Xmas Cups. Being stakes races of 2400m these give connections the ideal platform to meet the first balloting clause for the big spring cups.

Of course December can't go past without mentioning the big International Day in Hong Kong on the 12th. There are 4 big races, these being the Hong Kong sprint (1200m Group 1), Hong Kong Mile (1600m Group 1), Hong Kong Cup (2000m Group 1) and the Hong Kong Vase (2400m Group 1). There is always keen Asutralian interest in this day and this year is no exception. Ortensia has been invited to contest the sprint and will be up against Asian based, Australian bred sprinters Rocket Man (SGP) and Sacred Kingdom (HK).

Our Aussie interest continues in the Vase with this years Australian owned, American bred and French trained galloper Americain contesting the Vase. That is truly and international flavour. Finally, we will get to see Good Ba Ba try and win an unprecedented 4th straight International Mile.

That will take us into January when our eyes shift north for the Magic Millions so stay tuned.
